“One of the things I learnt the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.” – Lucille Ball
Hello Beautiful ppl ^_^/
First of all, a very Happy 50th post to me!* drumrolls* *happy dance* ^_^The idea for this blog came about last year, when I had to quit my job, pack my bags and move halfway across the world with my husband. We had just gotten married and starting a new life, in a new country was a challenge that I was willing to take. But I was 24, and not exactly an experienced person when it came to matters of staying at home and running a house, but that was the deal. My visa does not permit me to work or even join an unpaid internship for that matter, and for any independent person, this can be a major setback. But one year later, I can proudly say that I have come a long way from where I started. I taught myself how to create tasks of my own, set deadlines for my personal ventures, manage a schedule and learn innumerable things in my own space, at my own pace.
My heart goes out to all my comrades in different parts of the States- wives on H4 visa, who have to make a huge turn from having-it-all to starting from scratch. But this gap year can be a blessing in disguise. You now have the time to do everything that you always wanted to do, but could never squeeze out the time to make it happen. I am sharing with you all, a list of 5 cool websites which will help you to make the best of this time and keep you involved, busy, positive and happy!
About: VolunteerMatch is an American nonprofit organization, that aims to strengthen communities by making it easier for people to find good causes.
A wonderful way to get involved, give back and feel a part of the community. This website searches for volunteering opportunities in your area. You can choose from a myriad of options-like teaching a kid, helping out at a donation center or caring for the elderly.
About: Meetup is an online portal that facilitates offline group meetings in various localities around the world. Meetup allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest, such as politics, books, games, movies, health, pets, careers or hobbies.
I first found out about Meetup when I was looking for vegan communities in my area. A great way to meet with like minded people and share the love of well what you love. But I would suggest taking your partner or someone whom you know along and making sure that the meetup location is a well known and crowded area.
About: Groupon is a deal-of-the-day website that features discounted gift certificates usable at local or national companies.
Uh hunn..Groupon isn’t just about those food deals but it’s a great way to search for discounted workshops and activities. You get to try out some fun stuff, at well quarter of the price. Look for paint-a-pot classes, voice over lessons or story writing. There are great baking and cooking classes too!
About: Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms
Instagram is the place to be if you want to start a photo blog or share your daily adventures with your friends and family back home. Check out my insta page here and a beautiful food photo blog by my insta-friend Ash here.
About: EdX is a massive open online course provider and online learning platform. It hosts online university-level courses in a wide range of disciplines to a worldwide audience, some at no charge.
Even if you are a highly qualified person, it always helps to build your resume and learn some new skills to gear up for the new job in the coming future. edX offers tons of online classes, many of them are yes-FREE 🙂 Learn a new software or just brush up your programming skills, the topics and courses are endless!
